What can I do if my uploaded images appear rotated?

Sometimes, you may find that your image appears rotated incorrectly in the thumbnail. This happens because the rotation of the image is actually not "baked into" the image itself, but is store as so-called "metadata". For example when someone rotates an image on their PC - the PC remembers its rotation setting, but it's not actually saving the rotated image as such, it just remembers that every time it is to open this image it will rotate it on the fly.

Our server is unable to read those instructions, therefore it reads the 'original' state of the image (prior to when the rotation happened).

There is a simple fix, however, which is to make sure the rotation is done in an image application like Photoshop or even when done on Windows PC - the image must be saved after the rotation has been applied.
